The Line: Utah State Aggies -3.5 -- Over/Under: 50
The BYU Cougars and the Utah State Aggies meet in a week 10 college football clash from Maverik Stadium on Saturday night.
The BYU Cougars will look to get back to .500 after posting a 28-25 win over Boise State in their last outing. Zach Wilson has thrown for 1,312 yards, 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 61.7% passing while Ty’Son Williams leads the Cougars in rushing with 264 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Matt Bushman leads BYU in receiving with 28 grabs for 398 yards and 3 touchdowns while Aleva Hifo has 314 receiving yards and Micah Simon, Talon Shumway and Gunner Romney each have 218 receiving yards this year. Defensively, Kavika Fonua leads the Cougars with 56 total tackles while Isaiah Kaufusi and Payton Wilgar each have 2 interceptions this season. As a team, BYU is averaging 381.6 yards of total offense and 23.1 points per game while allowing 405.3 yards of total defense and 29.7 points per game against this year.
The Utah State Aggies will be looking to bounce back after a 31-7 loss on the road against Air Force in their last outing. Jordan Love has thrown for 1,620 yards, 8 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on 59.8% passing while Gerold Bright has rushed for a team-high 469 rushing yards and Jaylon Warren is 2nd with 412 rushing yards with each logging 4 touchdowns this season. Siaosi Mariner leads the Aggies with 29 catches for 441 yards while Deven Thompkins, Savon Scarver, Caleb Repp and Jordan Nathan each have 200+ receiving yards for the Aggies this year. Defensively, David Woodward leads Utah State with 93 total tackles including a team-high 53 solo tackles while Nick Heninger has 3 sacks and Shaq Bond has a pair of interceptions. As a team, Utah State is averaging 406.9 yards of total offense and 29 points per game while allowing 415.6 yards of total defense and 24.1 points per game against this season.
BYU is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games against the Mountain West conference while the under is 18-7-1 in their last 26 road games. Utah State is 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. BYU is 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
The bye week couldn’t have come at a worse possible time for BYU, as the bye week killed whatever momentum the Cougars had from that Boise State game. BYU also has a tendency to get up for their coach Kalani Sitake, but the Cougars just aren’t consistent enough to give a low line like this value. Utah State plays their best football at home and have won each of their three home games this season by double digits. I’ll take a shot with Utah State for the bounce back performance with a win here.
