The UAB Blazers and the Tennessee Volunteers meet in a week 10 college football matchup from Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
The UAB Blazers will look for a big road win to build on their current three-game winning streak after a 38-14 win over Old Dominion brought their record to 6-1 on the year. Tyler Johnston III leads the Blazers under center, throwing for 1,763 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 60.2% passing while Spencer Brown leads the group of four UAB rushers ith at least 200+ rushing yards this season with 262 yards along with 3 touchdowns while Lucious Stanley has 235 rushing yards and 5 TDs. Austin Watkins leads UAB in receiving with 31 catches for 655 yards and 5 touchdowns while Kendall Parham has 518 receiving yards and 6 TDs and Myron Mitchell has 339 receiving yards this season. Defensively, Kristopher Moll leads UAB with 53 total tackles including a team-high 33 solo tackles as well as 4.5 sacks while Garrett Marino also has 4.5 sacks and Jordan Smith has a team-high 5.5 sacks this year. As a team, UAB is averaging 406.1 yards of total offense and 29.9 points per game while allowing 250.6 yards of total defense and 15.7 points per game against this season.
The Tennessee Volunteers will look to build some momentum after picking up a 41-21 win over South Carolina in their last outing. Jarrett Guarantano has thrown for 1,140 yards, 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 60.7% passing while Ty Chandler leads the Volunteers in rushing with 484 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and Tim Jordan has chipped in 282 rushing yards for Tennessee. Jauan Jennings leads the Vols with 42 grabs for 652 yards and 7 touchdowns while Marquez Callaway has had 374 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Defensively, Theo Jackson leads Tennessee with 45 total tackles while Nigel Warrior has 44 total tackles with 3 interceptions and Darrell Taylor has a team-high 5 sacks this season. As a team, Tennessee is averaging 354.9 yards of total offense and 24 points per game while allowing 365.2 yards of total defense and 26.2 points per game against this season.
UAB is 25-10-1 ATS in their last 36 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against the SEC. Tennessee is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 6-15 ATS in their last 21 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against C-USA. UAB is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Tennessee has looked better in recent weeks, but beating up on a Mississippi State team with major quarterback issues and taking down a below average South Carolina team doesn’t really move the needle for me. UAB is quietly playing some of the best defense in the country, and haven’t allowed more than 20 points in a game all season long. I just think that UAB has the balance to hang with Tennessee here, so I’ll take a shot with the Blazers and the points in this one.
