The Boise State Broncos and the San Jose State Spartans meet in a week 10 Mountain West conference college football tilt from CEFCU Stadium on Saturday night.

The Boise State Broncos have had their bye week to stew on their first loss of the season coming in the form of a 28-25 loss to BYU in their last outing, dropping Boise State to 6-1 this year. Hank Bachmeier has thrown for 1,547 yards, 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while Chase Cord has thrown for 480 yards, 8 touchdowns and 2 picks. George Holani leads Boise State in rushing with 463 rushing yards while Robert Mahone has 389 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. John Hightower has 455 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns to lead the Broncos while Khalil Shakir has a team-high 30 receptions for 424 yards with 3 touchdowns. CT Thomas has 265 receiving yards with 3 touchdowns while John Bates and Akilian Butler each have 200+ receiving yards. Defensively, Riley Whimpey and Sonatane Lui each have a team-high 33 total tackles while Curtis Weaver has a team-high 9.5 sacks this year. As a team, Boise State is averaging 469.7 yards of total offense and 35.3 points per game while allowing 331.1 yards of total defense and 20.7 points per game against this season.

The San Jose State Spartans will look for a big win at home to get back above .500 after a 34-29 win over Army in their last outing. Josh Love has thrown for 2,355 yards, 15 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 59.4% passing while DeJon Packer leads the Spartans in rushing with 256 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. Tre Walker leads SJSU’s receiving corps with 40 catches for 565 yards while Bailey Gaither has 491 receiving yards and a team-high 4 touchdowns and Isaiah Hamilton has 413 receiving yards. Defensively, Ethan Aguayo has a team-high 69 total tackles while Jay Lenard has 65 total tackles with a team-high 46 solo tackles. Jesse Osuna leads the Spartans with 3 sacks while Nehemiah Shelton, Brandon Ezeli and Bobby Brown II each have 3 sacks this season. As a team, San Jose State is averaging 396.9 yards of total offense and 28.4 points per game while allowing 444.1 yards of total defense and 29.4 points per game against this season.

Boise State is 6-1-2 ATS in their last 9 conference games and 10-4-2 ATS in their last 16 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss. San Jose State is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 home games. Boise State is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

I have no qualms with Boise State being favored, even on the road as the Broncos are the better team for the most part. However, there are still injury concerns with Bachmeier at QB for the Broncos with a hip injury, and Chase Cord, while being serviceable in relief, is still a backup. San Jose State has been the laughing stock of the Mountain West over the last couple of years, but this is the best the Spartans have looked in a little bit and have already pulled off a couple of impressive wins this season. San Jose State is also 3-0 ATS as a double-digit underdog this year with outright victories over Arkansas and Army. I’m not saying the Spartans win this one outright, but San Jose State has earned my respect and I’ll take the Spartans with the points int his one as I see it finishing within two touchdowns.
