The Line: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -17.5 -- Over/Under: 58
The Virginia Tech Hokies and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will match up on the college football circuit Saturday.
Virginia Tech enters this one at 5-2 so far. The Hokies have fallen to Boston College and Duke, but otherwise taken out Old Dominion, Furman, Miami-FL, Rhode Island and North Carolina.
In the (6OT!) win over UNC, Virginia Tech QB Hendon Hooker posted 127 yards with a TD and Quincy Patterson added 54 pass yards, a pass TD, 122 rush yards and a rush score. Tre Turner also had a nice line on 106 yards and a touchdown.
Over on the Notre Dame side, they’re 5-2 this year. The Irish have wins over Louisville, New Mexico, Virginia, Bowling Green and USC with losses to Georgia and Michigan.
In the loss to Michigan, Notre Dame QB Ian Book had 73 yards and a score, and Jahmir Smith led an anemic rush with 15 yards. Chase Claypool led the receivers with 42 yards on two grabs.
Virginia Tech is 2-5 ATS in the last seven non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. The Hokies are 2-6 ATS in the last eight in November and 1-4 ATS in their last five on turf.
Meanwhile, the Irish are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss. Notre Dame is 7-3-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 in November.
Virginia Tech is probably still exhausted from that marathon against the Tar Heels, but the win makes the effort worth it. That continues a nice scoring trend for the Hokies, who have at least 34 in each of their last three.
Notre Dame has really looked off in their last two games (including that bad 45-14 defeat by Michigan) but they should be able to put up a decent points total here. That said, I think the Hokies can get in there and cover.
