The Line: Massachusetts Minutemen +21.5 -- Over/Under: 67
The Liberty Flames and the UMass Minutemen will match up in college football action on Saturday.
Liberty comes in here at 5-3 so far. The Flames have wins over Buffalo, Hampton, New Mexico, NM State and Maine alongside losses to Syracuse, Louisiana and Rutgers.
In the loss to Rutgers, Liberty QB Stephen Calvert posted 244 yards and a TD, and Joshua Mack led the rush with 109 yards and two TDs. Kevin Shaa was the top receiver there on 89 yards from four catches.
Over on the UMass side, they’re 1-7 this year. The Minutemen took out Akron but have fallen to Rutgers, Southern IL, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, FIU, LA Tech and Connecticut otherwise.
In the loss to the Huskies, UMass QB Andrew Brito had 239 yards with two TDs and a pick, and Bilal Ally had 159 yards with two scores. Jermaine Johnson added 92 yards and a TD on four catches.
The Flames are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five conference games. Liberty is 2-6-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record and the under is 4-0 in their last four after a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Minutemen are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall. UMass is 1-7 ATS in their last eight on turf and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss.
Liberty had a pretty nice run going in their five-game win streak, and when the offense wasn’t working they got the job done on defense—as when they held New Mexico and NM State to 23 combined points—but they surrendered 44 points to Rutgers last weekend.
Speaking of giving up points, UMass has coughed up at least 44 in each of their last three. Liberty should have no problem getting into the end zone here, so I’m taking the Flames.
