The Bowling Green Falcons and the Western Michigan Broncos meet in week 9 college football MAC-tion from Waldo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Bowling Green Falcons could use a win after losing 5 of their last 6 games, falling to 2-5 after a 38-20 loss to Central Michigan in their last outing. Grant Loy threw for 166 yards, a touchdown and 3 interceptions on 13 of 29 passing while sharing the team lead in rushing with Bryson Denley as each had 67 rushing yards with Denley adding a rushing touchdown as well. Quinton Morris led Bowling Green in receiving with 4 catches for 69 yards while Denley added 3 grabs for 48 yards and a receiving touchdown. Jamari Bozeman led the Falcons on defense with 14 total tackles including a team-high 7 solo tackles while Jordan Anderson logged an interception. As a team, Bowling Green is averaging 345.1 yards of total offense and 16.1 points per game while allowing 473.1 yards of total defense and 35.6 points per game against this season.
The Western Michigan Broncos will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their eight games this season after a 34-27 loss to Eastern Michigan in their last outing. Jon Wassink threw for 192 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 15 of 24 passing while LeVante Bellamy rushed for 113 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Giovanni Ricci led WMU’s receiving corps with 6 grabs for 88 yards while Keith Mixon Jr. had 5 catches for 46 yards and Corey Crooms had a 38-yard receiving TD. Defensively, Treshaun Heyward led Western Michigan with 18 total tackles including 10 solo tackles while Patrick Lupro had 14 total tackles including a team-high 11 solo tackles. As a team, Western Michigan is averaging 447.8 yards of total offense and 34.4 points per game while allowing 451.1 yards of total defense and 27.8 points per game against this season.
Bowling Green is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Western Michigan is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 conference games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Bowling Green is 4-10 ATS in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
Bowling Green has had some major issues this season, but the only game that I really look down at is that 62-20 loss to a 3-4 Kent State team. Kansas State and Notre Dame were always going to be blowouts and a loss to Louisiana Tech isn’t that bad either as the Bulldogs are one of the best in C-USA this season. Western Michigan probably wins this game, but the Brocnos haven’t done enough to justify being a nearly four touchdown favorite in this spot. Their lone tough test came against Syracuse, in a game that the Broncos scored 33, but let a bad Syracuse team drop 52 on them. I just don’t think that Western Michigan is worth this kind of juice, so I’ll take a shot with Bowling Green and the points here.
