The Akron Zips and the Northern Illinois Huskies will meet up on the college football circuit Saturday.
Akron stumbles into this matchup at 0-7 so far. This season, the Zips have fallen to Illinois, UAB, Central Michigan, Troy, UMass, Kent State and Buffalo in succession.
In the loss to the Bulls, Akron QB Zack Gibson posted 193 yards with one INT and Decavilon Reese posted 37 rush yards. Julian Hicks led the receivers there on 51 yards from nine grabs.
Over on the NIU side, they’re 2-5 so far. The Huskies’ wins have come against Illinois State and Ohio, but they’ve lost to Utah, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Ball State and Miami-OH.
In the loss to Miami-OH, NIU quarterback Marcus Childers posted 144 yards and a TD. Tre Harbison added 83 yards rushing and Cole Tucker posted 82 receiving yards and a TD on six catches.
Akron is 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 overall. The Zips are 1-5 ATS in the last six in October and 0-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. NIU is 1-5 ATS in their last six home games versus a team with a losing road record and the under is 7-1 in their last eight home games.
Well, not much is going right for Akron this season. The Zips have three combined points in their last two games and have been held to a touchdown or less in four of seven outings. Pretty ugly.
As for NIU, they’ve had some offensive struggles as well—there was a three-game stretch where they couldn’t crack 18 points—but they’ve scored at least 20 in each of the last three. This may be a pretty sloppy game but NIU shouldn’t have too many difficulties.
