The FIU Golden Panthers and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders meet in week 9 C-USA conference college football action from Johnny Floyd Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The FIU Golden Panthers will look to build on their current three game winning streak after a 32-17 win over UTEP in their last outing. James Morgan threw for 150 yards and a touchdown on 9 of 17 passing while Anthony Jones led FIU with 102 rushing yards and a touchdown and Napoleon Maxwell had 37 rushing yards and a touchdown as well. Jones’ lone reception went for a team-high 61 yards while Shemar Thornton had a team-high 4 catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Tevin Jones led FIU with 9 total tackles while Richard Dames had a team-high 7 solo tackles and an interception and Alexy Jean-Baptiste had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss. As a team, FIU is averaging 404.7 yards of total offense and 30.4 points per game while allowing 368.6 yards of total defense and 23.1 points per game against this season.
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will look to rebound after consecutive losses and defeats in 4 of their last 5 games following a 33-30 loss to North Texas last time out. Asher O’Hara threw for 136 yards on 16 of 32 passing while leading the Blue Raiders in rushing with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown. Chase Cunningham threw for 116 yards, a touchdown and an interception while also rushing for a TD. Zack Dobson led Middle Tennessee with 6 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown while Jarrin Pierce had 6 grabs of his own for 55 yards and Yusuf Ali has 5 catches for 47 yards. Defensively, Jovante Moffatt and Chris Stamps had a team-high 8 total tackles and an interception with Moffatt logging a team-high 7 solo tackles. As a team, Middle Tennessee is averaging 393.3 yards of total offense and 22 points per game while allowing 496.4 yards of total defense and 32.7 points per game against this season.
FIU is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a win. Middle Tennessee is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 conference games and 0-5 ATS in their lat 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss. FIU is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I think you can definitely make a case for FIU laying the points on the road as they’ve scored 122 points in their last three games while allowing just 40. However, those games all came at home against UMass, Charlotte and UTEP, who have a combined record of 4-16. The Panthers got blown out by Tulane and lost to Louisiana Tech in their two true road games this season. Middle Tennessee isn’t lighting the world on fire with their play, but both of their wins this season have come at home and I just need to see something from FIU in terms of winning SU on the road before laying points with them, so I’ll take a shot with Middle Tennessee and the points at home in this game.
