The Line: Marshall Thundering Herd -6.5 -- Over/Under: 45.5
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Marshall Thundering Herd will meet up on the college football circuit Saturday.
Western Kentucky sits at 5-2 so far. The Hilltoppers have lost to Louisville and Central AR but otherwise dispatched FIU, UAB, Old Dominion, Army and Charlotte this year.
In the win over the Niners, WKU quarterback Ty Story posted 283 yards with two TDs and Gaej Walker added 70 rush yards. Lucky Jackson had a great game with 141 yards and a TD on five catches.
Over on the Marshall side, they’re 4-3 so far. The Herd have fallen to Boise State, Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee but defeated VMI, Ohio, Old Dominion and FL Atlantic.
In the win over the Owls, Marshall QB Isaiah Green put up 206 yards, two TDs and one INT, and Brenden Knox rushed for 220 yards with two touchdowns. Armani Lewis managed 70 yards and a TD on four catches as well.
Western Kentucky is 6-0 ATS in their last six conference games and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. The Hilltoppers are 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Herd are 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Marshall is 0-5 ATS in their last five home games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win.
Western Kentucky is on a four-game win streak after dropping two of their first three. The Hilltoppers are doing it with defense, holding opponents to 14 points or fewer in all four of those games.
As for Marshall, they’ve posted 67 points over their last two games combined but had just 27 in the two before that. I don’t think the Herd will be able to keep the offensive pressure going here, so I’m sticking with WKU on the cover.
