The Old Dominion Monarchs and the UAB Blazers meet in a week 8 C-USA college football matchup from Legion Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Old Dominion Monarchs will be out to snap a five game losing streak after a 31-17 loss to Marshall in their last outing. Stone Smartt has thrown for 820 yards, a touchdown and 5 interceptions on 59% passing while Kesean Strong leads the Monarchs in rushing and receiving with 194 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and has a team-high 18 receptions for 133 yards. Lala Davis also has 172 rushing yards while the previously mentioned Smartt has 130 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. Defensively, Lawrence Garner leads the Monarchs with 59 total tackles including a team-high 32 solo tackles while Jordan Young has 42 total tackles and Geronda Hall has 40 total tackles. Juwan Ross leads ODU with 3.5 sacks this year and Keion White has 2.5 sacks. As a team, Old Dominion is averaging 257.7 yards of total offense and 16.5 points per game while allowing 332.7 yards of total defense and 25.8 points per game against this season.
The UAB Blazers will be looking to build on their 5-1 record following back-to-back victories after a 33-14 win over UTSA last time out. Tyler Johnston III has thrown for 1,503 yards, 13 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on 61.8% passing while Spencer Brown leads UAB with 262 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and Lucious Stanley has 221 rushing yards and 3 rushing scores of his own. Austin Jenkins leads UAB in receiving with 26 receptions for 534 yards and 5 touchdowns while Kendall Parham is 2nd with 18 grabs for 436 yards and 5 touchdowns of his own and Myron Mitchell has 17 catches for 298 yards. Defensively, Kristopher Moll leads the Blazers with 41 total tackles including 22 solo tackles with 3 sacks as well while Noah Wilder has 39 total tackles and Jordan Smith has a team-high 5 sacks. As a team, UAB is averaging 401.8 yards of total offense and 28.5 points per game while allowing 265.7 yards of total defense and 16 points per game against this season.
Old Dominion is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 conference games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. UAB is 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 19-9-1 in their last 29 games overall.
The points with the Monarchs could be worth a look as ODU is 3-0 ATS on the road this season and haven’t lost by more than two touchdowns in any of those games. However, I worry that ODU’s issues on offense, moving the ball and putting points up, might catch up to them here. UAB is the much better team offensively as well as one of the nation’s best on defense. I just don’t see Old Dominion being able to keep up here, so I’ll lay the points with UAB in this contest.
