The Temple Owls and SMU Mustangs meet Saturday in college football action at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
The Temple Owls look for another win to build on their three-game winning streak. The Temple Owls have won four of their last six road games. Anthony Russo is completing 59.2 percent of his passes for 1,503 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. Russo has six touchdown passes and four interceptions in his last four games. Jaden Blue and Branden Mack have combined for 939 receiving yards and five touchdowns while Isaiah Wright has 37 receptions. The Temple Owls ground game is averaging 165.6 yards per contest, and Re'Mahn Davis leads the way with 575 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Temple is allowing 19 points and 325.7 yards per game. Ifeanyi Maijeh leads the Temple Owls with 35 tackles, Quincy Roche has three sacks and Harrison Hand has two interceptions.
The SMU Mustangs look for another victory to remain in the AAC title conversation. The SMU Mustangs have won six of their last eight home games. Shane Buechele is completing 67 percent of his passes for 1,665 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Buechele has two or more touchdown passes in his last five games. Reggie Roberson Jr. and James Proche have combined for 1,074 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while Kylen Granson has 13 receptions. The SMU Mustangs ground game is averaging 207 yards per contest, and Xavier Jones leads the way with 646 yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively, SMU is allowing 27.3 points and 386.3 yards per game. Patrick Nelson leads the SMU Mustangs with 38 tackles, Delontae Scott has 3.5 sacks and Rodney Clemons has three interceptions.
The Owls are 37-14 ATS in their last 51 conference games, 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games and 41-20 ATS in their last 61 games overall. The Mustangs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in October and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The over is 6-0 in Mustangs last 6 games overall. The over is 7-3 in Owls last 10 games on fieldturf.
The Temple Owls have covered 10 of their last 14 games as a road underdog. The SMU Mustangs have covered 10 of their last 15 games as a home favorite. We've made a lot of money on Temple in the underdog role over the years, as this is a scrappy bunch that rarely gets blown out and covers at a ridiculous clip when getting points. With that said, we only have to lay a touchdown with SMU at home and with the rest advantage. SMU has been highly explosive offensively and I'm not sure Temple has the horses to match if the Mustangs get running. I love Temple when getting points, but this feels like a bad spot for the Owls.
