The UNLV Rebels and the Fresno State Bulldogs meet in a week 8 Mountain West conference college football matchup from Bulldog Stadium on Friday night.
The UNLV Rebels will be looking to build on a big 34-10 win over Vanderbilt in their last outing, snapping a four game losing skid in the process. Kenyon Oblad leads the Rebels with 739 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 52.6% passing while Charles Williams leads UNLV in rushing with 598 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. Randal Grimes leads UNLV with 22 catches for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Steve Jenkins has 201 receiving yards and Giovanni Fauolo Sr., Noah Bean and Darren Woods Jr. each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Evan Austrie leads UNLV with 45 total tackles including a team-high 33 solo tackles while Rayshad Jackson is right behind with 44 total tackles and Javin White has a pair of interceptions this season. As a team, UNLV is averaging 368.8 yards of total offense and 25.2 points per game while allowing 431.8 yards of total defense and 32.8 points per game against this season.
The Fresno State Bulldogs will look to bounce back after a 43-24 loss to Air Force in their last outing. Jorge Reyna has thrown for 1,226 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 64.2% passing while Ronnie Rivers leads the Bulldogs in rushing with 253 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Jalen Cropper and Josh Hokit each have 100+ rushing yards with Hokit adding 3 touchdowns. Zane Pope leads Fresno State with 22 receptions for 238 yards while Derrion Grim has 207 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Chris Coleman, Emoryie Edwards and Keric Wheatfall each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Justin Rice leads Fresno State with 50 total tackles as well as a pair of interceptions while Mykal Walker is right behing with 49 total tackles. Wylan Free has a pair of interceptions as well while Kevin Atkins has a team-high 3 sacks. As a team, Fresno State is averaging 386.4 yards of total offense and 29.2 points per game while allowing 362.4 yards of total defense and 29.8 points per game against this season.
UNLV is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 road games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 conference games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Fresno State is 28-10-2 ATS in their last 40 games overall and 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 21-5 in their last 26 conference games.
I get that Fresno State blew out UNLV by 45 points last season, but it’s not like the Bulldogs have dominated this matchup otherwise over the years, with the previous four meetings ending in UNLV victories or a Fresno State win by a field goal. UNLV is in a letdown spot after their win over Vanderbilt, but I don’t think that Fresno State is this many points better than UNLV right now, so I’ll take the points with the Rebels in this spot.
