The Rhode Island Rams will visit the Virginia Tech Hokies in college football action on Saturday.
The Rams are struggling at 1-4 right now, opening up with losses to Ohio, Delaware, New Hampshire and Stony Brook, but they did get a win their last time out versus Brown.
In the Bears win, Rhode Island QB Vito Priore had 389 yards with three touchdowns, and Lorenzo Bryant led the rush on 63 yards with a TD. Isaiah Coulter had a great day receiving on 12 catches for 171 yards and a score.
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they’re 3-2 so far. The Hokies have lost to Duke and Boston College so far, but otherwise beaten Old Dominion, Furman and Miami-FL.
In the win over the Hurricanes, Hokies QB Hendon Hooker managed 184 yards and three TDs, while also leading the team rushing with 76 yards and a score. James Mitchell added 75 yards on three receptions there.
The Rams are 5-0 ATS in their last five after posting less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and 5-0 ATS in their last five after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game. Rhode Island is also 5-0 ATS in their last five after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
Meanwhile, the Hokies are 0-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record and the over is 5-0 in their last five after an ATS win. The over is also 7-1 in Virginia Tech’s last eight after a straight-up win.
Outside of the opening 41-20 loss against Ohio, the Rams have been in every game since, falling by eight points or fewer in each. The biggest issue has been defense, as they’ve given up at least 27 points in every game.
As for Virginia Tech, they’ve been scoring pretty well (at least 24 points in all but one game) so I don’t think they’ll have too many issues here. I’m leaning toward the Hokies.
