The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Marshall Thundering Herd will meet up on the college football gridiron Saturday.
Old Dominion is sitting at 1-4 on the season so far. The Monarchs’ lone win came in the opener versus Norfolk State, and since they’ve lost to Virginia Tech, Virginia, East Carolina and Western Kentucky.
In the WKU game, Old Dominion quarterback Stone Smartt had 105 yards and a pick, while Kesean Strong had 40 yards rushing. Nigel Fitzgerald added one catch for 29 yards to lead the receivers.
Over on the Marshall side, they’re 2-3 this season. The Herd won two of their first three games versus VMI and Ohio, but otherwise has fallen to Boise State, Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee.
In the loss this past weekend, Marshall QB Isaiah Green had 365 yards with one TD and three picks, while Brenden Knox added 99 rush yards. Armani Levias had 94 yards and a score on three catches there.
The Monarchs are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 on turf and 10-21-1 ATS in their last 32 after a straight-up loss. ODU is 1-4 ATS in their last five in October and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 conference games.
Meanwhile, the Herd are 1-4 in their last five conference games and 1-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record. Marshall is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four at home.
ODU has been in most of their games this year, even against Virginia (28-17), but they really couldn’t do much of anything versus Western Kentucky in a 20-3 loss. Still, they’ve got the potential to bounce back here.
Marshall has scored just 27 points over their last two games, so they’ll be vulnerable if they can’t get something going. I’m going to stick with Old Dominion here. I think they can get into a cover.
