The UMass Minutemen and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will match up on the college football gridiron Saturday.
UMass is sitting at 1-5 on the season. The Minutemen got a win over Akron but otherwise they’ve fallen to Rutgers, Southern Illinois, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina and FIU.
In the FIU loss, UMass QB Michael Curtis had 66 yards and two INTs, and Bilal Ally led the rush with just 24 yards. Jermaine Johnson added three receptions for 33 yards there.
Over on the LA Tech side, they’re 4-1 this year. The Bulldogs fell to Texas in the opener but since have taken wins over Grambling State, Bowling Green, FIU and Rice.
In the OT win over the Owls, LA Tech QB J’mar Smith had 210 yards and a TD, while Justin Henderson had 64 yards and a TD. Adrian Hardy added 78 yards and a score on six grabs there.
The Minutemen are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games. UMass is 1-5 ATS in their last six overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six on turf.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 7-2 ATS in their last nine after an ATS loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. LA Tech is 1-5 ATS in their last six after a bye and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus independents.
There’s very little to call positive for UMass this season, especially following an ugly 44-0 blowout last weekend at the hands of FIU. Still, the Minutemen have four games with at least 20 points this year, so that’s something I suppose.
Despite a close call against Rice, LA Tech is looking good over their last four games so I’m sticking on the Bulldogs here. The line is silly thick--which does give me a bit of pause--but I still think they can cover it.
