The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Ole Miss Rebels meet in a week 6 SEC conference college football matchup from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field on Saturday night.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will look to build on their first win of the season following a 24-18 win over Northern Illinois last time out. Riley Neal has thrown for 858 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 62.2% passing while Ke’Shawn Vaughn leads Vandy in rushing with 398 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Kalija Lipscomb leads Vanderbilt in receiving with 23 catches for 268 yards and 2 touchdowns while Cam Johnson, Chris Pierce and Jared Pinkney are all 100+ yard receivers for the Commodores this season. Defensively, Dashaun Jenkins leads the Commodores with 28 total tackles including 17 solo tackles. As a team, Vanderbilt is averaging 367 yards of total offense and 23 points per game while allowing 502.2 yards of total defense and 39 points per game against this season.
The Ole Miss Rebels will look to rebound from back-to-back defeats after posting a 59-31 loss to Alabama in their last outing. Matt Corral has thrown for 844 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception on 59.6% passing while Scottie Phillips leads Ole Miss in rushing with 389 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Jerrion Ealy has 197 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns while John Rhys-Plumlee and Snoop Conner each have 100+ rushing yards for the Rebels this season. Elijah Moore is far and away Ole Miss’ top receiver, racking up 32 catches for 420 yards and 3 touchdowns while Jonathan Mingo has 129 receiving yards this season. Defensively, Lakia Henry, Jalen Julius and Jacquez Jones are tied for the team lead with 26 total tackles while 4 different Rebels have a pair of sacks each. As a team, Ole Miss is averaging 423.4 yards of total offense and 26.4 points per game while allowing 421.6 yards of total defense and 29.6 points per game against this season.
Vanderbilt is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win. Ole Miss is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 conference games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Vanderbilt is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 meetings between these two teams and 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams at Ole Miss.
Laying a touchdown with Ole Miss at home doesn’t feel like much considering how the Rebels did some damage on the board against Alabama. However, the Tide still dropped 59 on the Rebels and I’m sure Ole Miss is going to be feeling a bit black and blue in this one. Vanderbilt is a team that perennially ends up in the bowl picture with 6-7 wins, and they’ll need to pick things up if the Commodores are going to get back there come December. I think Vanderbilt getting their first win of the season will get some confidence going for the ‘Dores, and given their track record of success against Ole Miss, I’ll take a stab with Vanderbilt and the points in this one.
