The Ball State Cardinals and the Northern Illinois Huskies will meet up on the college football gridiron Saturday.
Ball State is sitting at 1-3 so far. The Cardinals took out Fordham in their second game but have otherwise fallen to Indiana, FL Atlantic and NC State.
In the loss to the Wolfpack, Ball State QB Drew Pitt had 333 yards and a pick, while Caleb Huntley had 52 yards and a TD rushing. Justin Hall had 73 yards and eight receptions as well.
Over on the Huskies’ side, they’re 1-3 as well. NIU beat Illinois State in their first game but then fell to Utah, Nebraska and Vanderbilt in succession.
In the Vanderbilt loss, Northern Illinois QB Ross Bowers had 280 yards with one TD and Jordan Nettles added 64 yards. Spencer Tears had 100 yards receiving on three catches there also.
The Cardinals are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 after a straight-up loss and 3-8 ATS in their lsat 11 road games. Ball State is 1-9 ATS in their last 10 in October and 0-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last five on turf and 1-4 ATS in the last five at home versus a team with a losing home record. The under is 6-1 in NIU’s last seven home games and 37-17-1 in their last 55 in October.
Despite the losing record, Ball State has scored pretty well so far this year. They’ve posted at least 23 points in every game, but given up at least 29 in every one as well.
I don’t think Northern Illinois is going to have the gas to pull away here, so I’m taking the Cardinals to get in there and cover.
