The New Mexico Lobos and the San Jose State Spartans meet in a week 6 Mountain West Conference clash from CEFCU Stadium on Friday night.
The New Mexico Lobos will look to rebound from a 17-10 loss to Liberty last time out. Tevaka Tuioti leads the Lobos with 626 passing yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 50.7% passing while Ahmari Davis leads New Mexico in rushing with 361 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Bryson Carroll also has 168 rushing yards while Tuioti has 121 rushing yards for the Lobos this year. Jordan Kress leads New Mexico with 169 receiving yards with a pair of touchdowns while Marcus Williams and Aaron Molina are also 100+ yard receivers for New Mexico this season. Defensively, Alex Hart leads the Lobos with 29 total tackles and 1.5 sacks while Dylan Hortin has 23 total tackles and 1.5 sacks of his own. As a team, New Mexico is averaging 452.2 yards of total offense and 29.5 points per game while allowing 526.2 yards of total defense and 41.5 points per game this season.
The San Jose State Spartans will look to bounce back after a 41-24 loss to Air Force last time out. Josh Love has thrown for 1,013 yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception on 60.7% passing while Nick Nash leads the Spartans in rushing with 203 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns while DeJon Packer has 155 rushing yards and 3 TDs. Tyler Nevens has 115 yards on the ground for SJSU as well this season. Tre Walker leads the Spartans with 18 catches for 230 yards while Bailey Gaither, Isaiah Hamilton and JaQuan Blackwell are all 100+ yard receivers for the Spartans this season. Defensively, Ethan Aguayo leads SJSU with 58 total tackles including a team-high 27 solo tackles and a sack. As a team, San Jose State is averaging 404 yards of total offense and 26.5 points per game while allowing 456.5 yards of total defense and 29.2 points per game against this season.
New Mexico is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 road games. San Jose State is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games on turf. New Mexico is 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
It's not often that you see the Spartans favored as this is just the second time that San Jose State has been a favorite against an FBS opponent since 2016. However, backing the Lobos just isn’t an option right now as New Mexico can’t keep points off of the board and when they do, the Lobos can’t score enough to give themselves any value as a dog. San Jose State fell to Air Force, but this is still a much-improved Spartans team that took down Arkansas and the Spartans have had a lot more success against the number than New Mexico has so I’ll lay the points with San Jose State in this one.
